My name is Laura Ponti and I've assisted students to develop confidence and proficiency at the piano for over twenty years.
I'm also on staff at Sonor Music School in Lafayette, CA, and Albany Music School in El Cerrito, CA.
Being familiar with the Taubman method of hand usage, I can help any pianist who has had hand injuries.
S0 why choose Music Matters Piano for online instruction?
BECAUSE WE'RE THAT GOOD!
March of 2020 presented a complicated and challenging situation for students and teachers.
What were originally in-person piano lessons transitioned successfully into online instruction.
The results were so positive (and the convenience undeniable,) that the online format has remained in place.

Laura Ponti exceeds expectations for dynamic teaching. Her experiences with master teachers of the past have shaped her into a phenomenal instructor of the piano. She truly loves the piano and brings out the best in all of us to produce beautiful music. My three kids (ages 16, 14, and 12) and I, as her adult students, have benefited greatly from her top-rate coaching and inspiration. You will fall in love with piano under Laura Ponti's piano lessons. ~ Andrew V. Pleasant Hill, CA
In a word, "Amazing." My journey began with Laura in the spring of 2018 as we engaged her to introduce piano to our granddaughter. I was so impressed with her skill and ability that I signed up for lessons. My experience with Laura has been truly amazing. Like the "Oracle," her instruction is unique to each student, providing them with what they need to push beyond barriers. My time with Laura is cherished, and I look forward to my weekly lessons. Thank you, Laura! You are the best!

My 11-year-old daughter really enjoys the lessons. Laura introduced her to appropriate material that was interesting but also listened to her requests. The big surprise was my 7-year-old son. He announced that he hated piano and would never take lessons. This was the same refrain for nearly every class we have ever taken...bluntly, I told him he was taking the lessons and just better get used to it. After about four to six months, he was sitting at the piano without my reminding him to practice. He has really taken to the lessons, and Laura is very patient with his little-boyness. She is just what you want in an instructor: flexible, kind, and engaging. The children are progressing quickly, and this is exactly what we wanted in lessons.

Laura began teaching my 12-year-old daughter remotely during the pandemic. As our fourth instructor over the past 4 years, we had some clear objectives with regard to teaching approach and philosophy, as well as personality and requirements. Laura's Zen-like vibe, wonderful people, and, more accurately, child skills have resulted in effective teaching and an increased interest in learning despite the inherent challenges of remote sessions. Laura has a wisdom and warmth about her that has enabled her to develop the rapport necessary to keep my daughter motivated and supported at once. Laura is a great find for anyone seeking similar qualities in their piano instructor.

Laura is far and beyond, not only the best piano teacher I've ever had but truly my favorite music teacher. After taking lessons with her for only about ten months, my playing has been completely and utterly transformed. In my first few months with Laura, she helped me develop proper technique and inspired me to practice much more than before. As she introduced me to more and more difficult pieces, my love for the instrument only grew. Now, I feel very comfortable with the instrument, and I receive compliments on my playing not only from family but from people in public. I am astonished with the progress I have made and am so thankful for Laura. I recommend her to any student of any age. I cannot overstate how impactful her lessons have been for me.
Thank you so much, Laura!

- " If you can hear it, you can play it...I truly believe that." After years of teaching, there are a few truths that I carry with me from student to student. One is the above. Part of my job is to teach you how to listen to music. We begin with what is on the page, then educate the hands-on how to work on the keys, and ultimately, we learn how to listen. Listening...it's the simplest solution but perhaps not the easiest thing to accomplish. I was taught by the best, and they gave me their secrets. Let me share them with you. ~ 20 years of teaching experience ~ San Francisco Conservatory of Music trained ~ All levels accepted ~ Students must be eight years of age or older ~ Acoustical piano is strongly recommendedContact Me Laura Ponti 925 935 1797 ljponti@protonmail.com
- By eight years of age... By eight years of age, a student is ready to begin private piano instruction. Developmentally, a child can handle how the information is organized as well as be able to take direction from the instructor using an online format. I was stunned when I saw how well students responded to online lessons! There are even students who feel that the lessons are better than before and I'm inclined to agree. Courtesy get-acquainted sessions available. Just call to schedule! 925 935 1797 ljponti@protonmail.com
